Now their mature, soul and country-tinged music gets the Analogue Productions treatment it rightly deserves on 180 gram vinyl. Hits like the record's most distinctive song, "Don't Know Why," have never sounded clearer or more sensual. You close your eyes and would like to swear that you are in the recording studio, watching the magic happen. Jones' Blue Note debut was flawlessly produced by the great Arif Mardin. Jones, daughter of Ravi Shankar, doesn't quite qualify as a jazz singer, but is joined by some highly esteemed jazz talent: guitarists Adam Levy, Adam Rogers, Tony Scherr, Bill Frisell and Kevin Breit; drummers Brian Blade, Dan Rieser and Kenny Wolleson; the organist Sam Yahel; Accordion player Rob Burger and violinist Jenny Scheinman. The musicians who regularly accompany Jones, guitarist Jesse Harris and bassist Lee Alexander, also play on every piece and are also the authors of most of the songs. Both have a gift for the melodic, simple but elegant sequences and moving lyrics.
