Description

Continuing the slow sell-off of my own Jazz collection, 2000 LPs accumulated over 50 years of buying and listening, culling and selling--those for sale now my own saved favorites, in other words. All those i bought new are at least Mint- and usually Mint, really. Any used ones in lesser condition, i'll describe. Today, a few i missed in previous auctions, then on with the L's...

Mint disc in Mint- gatefold jacket, from 1984, the only single-record Mosaic set (before the Monk/Coltrane discovery):

Limited Edition Mosaic MR1-108, this copy #2552 of 5000, The Complete Recordings of the Port of Harlem Jazzmen, a changing group of Thirties Jazz stars working together on some of Blue Note's earliest 78s releases, including the one that helped keep Blue Note solvent! Frankie Newton, J.C. Higginbotham, Teddy Bunn, Albert Ammons, Johnny Williams, and Big Sid Catlett play Daybreak Blues, Wearyland Blues, Port of Harlem Blues, Mighty Blues, and Rockin' the Blues.

Then Side 2 has Newton, Higginbotham, Bunn, Meade Lux Lewis, Williams and Catlett for After Hours Blues and Basin Street Blues; then the great Sidney Bechet joins in on Blues for Tommy and Pounding Heart Blues, and finally Bechet and the rhythm section only play the famous hit version of Summertime, well worth the price of the whole album.

Slight wear at top and bottom of jacket spine, plus 2" mid-bottom split in the record-holding portion of gatefold. Five b&w photos plus liner notes by Stanley Dance.
