Label Conditions:  All four superb, clean and fresh with any spindle traces minuscule. This original has hardly been played.

Warps: Few vintage records are ever perfectly ‘flat’, so some slight or very gentle arm movement is normal. If any record I offer has more than that, I will mention it, and it can be assumed all I offer will track without issues, even on budget turntables.

Brief Artist & Album Info:  The second Oasis album that most reading this will know all about. Suffice to say, this is a guaranteed genuine Damont first issue, and hardly played as well. The Damont pressings as the most sort-after, offering the most dynamic, sound and full-on sound on vinyl. Pressed in limited numbers and selling out very fast. This was the time when CDs were the format of choice for many music fans, hence first UK vinyl issues are scarce and now highly sort after. A rare opportunity for fans of this popular, almost legendary band.

Cover Grade and Format:  EXCELLENT: and arguably better than that. An unlaminated double gatefold format with matt smooth surfaces. The printing is pin-sharp and of top quality proving 100% this is totally genuine. Fakes apparently exist, where the print quality of the cover is very poor. The records are stored inside the right centrefold area. Made with thin card – the inside face is indeed single thickness – hence this has always been a fragile and wear- and damage-prone cover. Overall, this has little to fault with more details below.

Cover Front: This front has little to fault overall, the only real blemish is a light to moderate bottom left corner tip dink/crease. Still very clean, fresh and attractive with any other creasming very little, fine and faint. The classic artwork can still be held and admired on this one, it gives scant clues of age and has been cover protected for most of its time.

Cover Back: The same dink on same corner with a tiny tip rub on the left corner opposite (look very hard). Then, largely the same as the front again. The lack of rubbing, grubbiness and ring wear are all major plusses. The inner back cover is also largely the same again.

Cover Inside (three faces): The same corner dink is seen again along with a small few edges surface creases, mainly on the top middle edge. This area vulnerable due to the where the records are stored inside this area. A light ripple blemish on the left bottom edge area is probably adhesive from manufacture. All three inner surfaces also remain clean and fresh with any ink chipping or less little, few and mild. Little detracts inside.

Top & Bottom Edges: All retain quite straight, neat with no splits to the folds. Any rubbing, thickening or wear being minimal and faint. Give the format, all are impressive and strong.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Both folded end and edge are superb, clean and straight with no wear or thickening.

Spine and Text:  This and solid with all text present and clear as seen. The very end has a dink as mentioned already on the main face text above.

Corners: Yes, the bottom left spine corner end has a small dink, that apart, any other wear to the corners is tiny and light with fine to very fine shape mostly retained.

Cover Summary:  An excellent example of this quite delicate double gatefold cover. With inner central storage of the records, these will most always attract creasing and often damage to the thin card. These more ‘modern’ covers were never as solid and strong as those of the 1960s and 70s, and few genuine first examples will be found a great deal better. It will prove difficult to find significantly better and should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeves: This double set included two shiny surface black unlined card inner sleeves. One is Excellent, the other would have been the same bar a moderate thumb crease on the front side near the top recessed opening, and a very small fine ‘thin’ on a closed edge – so I grade this one as Very Good. The faintest of fine small splits, probably from record movement in transit, almost certainly there from new. This trait for inners is very common, this really hardly even registers. A tiny few light surface creases near the sides or corner tip, but also still clean, shiny and fresh. All other edges naturally intact with no splits. Slight rim impression is almost inevitable, but as light as it gets on revealing black surfaces. Overall, both these inners have fared quite well, and one, very well.

The Promotional Card Insert: VERY GOOD+:  A quite small – approx 4 cm – card printed on both sides. This insert is now even rarer than the album as many of those who purchased this album would have filled it in and posted it for more information about Oasis live dates and releases. That is what is was intended for. The only reason for the cautious grading is for some moderately light creasing to the top edge area. Almost certainly this got caught between the covers main folds when closed causing the creasing. Still clean and fresh with no tearing or writing as clearly seen in the pictures. This crucial ‘extra’ makes this album truly complete.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(+) / EXCELLENT.  Both records appear hardly played and retain fine shine and freshness. The first record has little to fault visually at all. The second has a couple of small pressing ‘bumps’ each side that have NO effect on sound. This has nothing to do with wear or mistreatment of course, it is simply a blemish in manufacture and hardly unusual. Any marks are minimal, and again, any seen critically under light are traits within the pressing. A small fine mark maybe from usage has no sound whatsoever, and any pressing blemishes are totally ignored when played. My gradings do not take into account of minor visual pressing marks, especially when they are superficial and have no effect on sound. Indeed, most of this album plays so loudly, any contact sound would be pretty much obsured anyway. These are excellent records, and arguably better, both play to the highest standard.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [Equipment used: Pro-Ject X2 B Turntable, Ortofon MC X30 moving coil cartridge, Pro-Ject DS3 B Phono Preamp, Naim SuperNait 2 and Spendor A7 floorstanding speakers.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading:  The Damont pressing is the most full-on, dynamic and loud – THE one most fans want and cherish. Both records play beyond their very fine visual gradings with nothing to fault – I heard no unwanted sounds at all – and this on a massively revealing system. Any arm movement on rotation, slight and both records track perfectly. I have no doubt whatsoever, both records have hardly been used and will prove difficult to find better. A genuine original that should please many, if not most fans and collectors.

End Piece:  Quite unbelievably, this album received some mixed reviews on release, but now is regarded as one of the greatest rock albums of the 20th-century. Adored by fans and for me anyway, their very best album. Subsequent pressings and repressings sound different, and for many inferior. Hear it as it was meant to be heard on this superb Damont pressing – it really is something special!!



The records have been professionally cleaned on my German-made Nessie vinyl record cleaning machine.

The records will always be removed from the main cover and placed inside a soft-lined white inner to avoid edge splits in transit. Then put inside a protective plastic sleeve.
