OLIVER NELSON: BLUES & ABSTRACT TRUTH * RVG Stereo * Hubbard, Dolphy, Evans NM-
Oliver Nelson was a gifted composer, arranger and saxophone player who had a distinguished career in the jazz idiom. He thought that this album was a turning point in his development and I can still remember the impact it had on the jazz scene. He composed all of the songs.
Nelson played alto and tenor sax on this session, with Eric Dolphy, alto sax and flute; Freddie Hubbard, trumpet; George Barrow, baritone sax; Bill Evans, piano; Paul Chambers, bass; and Roy Haynes, drums.
This stereophonic album is designated Impulse Stereo A-5. The engineer is Rudy Van Gelder.
This recording Play Grades NM- and the Vinyl grades VG++ to NM-.
We listen to each record in our grading process, to avoid surprises. Our policy is that we want you to be satisfied with your purchase. If you are not, please call or email me within 14 days of your receipt, and the price in full will be refunded (see details under return policy).
The gatefold album cover is VG+ and would be higher except that the top right corner is crumpled (not badly). There are minor corner dings, but no edge wear. The graphics are very good. There is slight ring wear on the rear cover.
We have to sell an extensive collection of carefully-selected jazz and classical music and we will be releasing albums for sale each month.
