Description
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark was one of the most innovative bands to emerge from the New Wave/post punk scene. Their debut single, Electricity, is considered a classic of the genre. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's first 7” features the brilliant ‘Electricity’ on the A-side and the equally great ‘Almost’ on the reverse. With its catchy Selmer Piantron riff, Vox organ chords, Korg M500 white noise, Wilson Rapier bassline, and frenetic vocals, 'Electricity' remains one of their most popular tracks. 'Almost' is is wistful ballad about a long distance relationship, with repeating organ chords and bass notes, and washes of white noise. The latter was given Martin Hannett's (credited as Martin Zero) signature production (it was slowed down and tons of digital delay was added). The former was recorded on a Teac A3440 reel to reel tape recorder (named 'Winston' by the band) in a garage. This original first UK pressing from 1979 is in excellent condition. This is the limited edition ‘braille’ version using the thermograph process; the first edition of the first edition. It was pressed on Factory records (catalogue number FAC 6). It is now 33 years old, long out of print, and highly collectable.
