OMD Electricity-Original Factory FAC 6 7" Braille cover

This is the incredibly scarce and highly collectable first pressing of OMD's debut single Electricity, issued by Factory records in 1979. This was only the third single to be issued by Factory so is now highly prized by Factory collectors. It was pressed in a limited edition of 5,000.

This was produced by the legendary Martin Hannett, but the band were unhappy with the results so the issued take was one which was actually produced by the band and Paul Collister. Hannet produced the B side under this alter-ego name of Martin Zero.

The label incorrectly spells Andy McCluskey's name as McKlusky.

Matrix markings are:

• A side - FAC 6 BEFORE - 1 and A Porky Prime Cut
• B side - FAC 6 AFTER - 2

It comes in its original Peter Saville designed sleeve. In the Factory Records-The Complete Graphic Album book, this is described as follows:

"Shortly before designing this sleeve, Peter Saville discovered a book on alternative systems of graphic notation in 20th century avant garde music. Since the members of OMD also used their own abstracted handwritten marks to score music, Saville took a set of their notations and used dry-transfer lettering to render them as precise marks. The composition and type choice is again inspired by Jan Tschichold's later period, while the artwork is printed in black thermographic ink, to emulate braille, on similar-coloured card stock - a reference to the 'Dark' in the band's name."

Legend has it that Peter Saville offered this sleeve design first to A Certain Ratio but they turned it down!

Condition (please note that I use the Record Collector Grading System to rate the condition of records and covers – see below, but please contact me if you wish to clarify):

Record – VG - few light surface marks on both sides 

Cover - The cover is in great condition - apart from the fact that there is a seam split along almost the entire bottom edge. If it wasn't for that I would have classified it as VG+ 

Record Grading System:

MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised, as Sealed or Unplayed will be mint.

EXCELLENT The record shows some signs of having been played, possibly with light surface marks but there will be very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
