Description

OMEGA - 10000 lepes       Qualiton LPX 17400 /1969/

Omega were certainly one of the biggest and best acts from Hungary. The title track features some great Robin Trower guitar solos over a pounding march beat, monk chants and Beatles horns, and comes off sounding like the Eastern European equivalent of Procol's "The Devil Came From Kansas."  The tremendous "Tuzvihar" ("Stormy  Fire") opens with an intense carpet bombing of Sabbath fuzz power chords and then rumbles forward at a 200mph gallop with dizzying organ and a buzzing fuzz guitar hornets nest keeping pace.  It's a mindblowing slice of spiralling psychedelia with an absolute KILLER break with some "Forever Changes" horns that actually work well.  Imagine crossing Love's "A House is Not A Home" with "7 and 7 Is."  And speaking of influences, check out the opening bars of "Petroleum Lampa" and compare it to the opening bars of the Kinks "Holiday in Waikiki" - yep, they're EXACTLY the same!  The song continues after that in a similar upbeat jaunty island pop vibe.  And if you think a bit of jangly Hawaiian island pop is out of place in Hungary, wait'll you hear "Kergeskezu Favagok", which turns the Bakony into a tropical rainforest for 3 minutes of funky flute-led jamming with groovy go-go organ.  It's a superb slice of Latin tropicalia by way of Budapest, complete with the sounds of jungle birds along the mighty Tisza.  Like the rest of the album, I don't know what it all means, but I like what I hear.

The record is in VG+ condition and the cover is VG.
