If you wanted proof that distance and location can fade into insignificance when it comes to stylistic direction and musical interpretations of the world around us then consider this. While there are thousands (upon thousands) of miles between Atlanta, Georgia and North East England, Omni - who hail from America's Deep South - and Field Music, from the UK's industrial heartland - are kindred spirits in terms of sound and intonation. Take the title track for example. It's as jaunty as it is deep, as lyrically down to Earth as it is packed with evocative imagery. A meditation on the everyday and yet capable of taking you out of the here and now. Wherever that may be. Tracks like "Moat" segue between tempos and rhythms with ease, "Present Tense" rolls and tracks its way into the very centre of your mind, simple electronic keys used like mind control devices, while "Blunt Force" takes things down a woozy, art rock avenue.
