Description
ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA - ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK - MUSIC COMPOSED, ARRANGED AND CONDUCTED BY ENNIO MORRICONE, 1984 1st release (same year as the film's theatrical release), Mercury / Polygram Records (NY), 12.3 x 12.25-inches; new/shrink-wrapped (slight wear to shrink-wrapped has exposed upper corners, which have wear at tips; also this was an industry gift and there's a tiny slit in the lower edge of the sleeve just over half and inch from the corner that opens when the shrink-wrap's removed).
Former classmates Ennio Morricone and director and co-screenwriter (along with the 5 Italian writers who helped turn Harry Grey's novel into an epic film) became famous collaborators on Leone;s iconic spaghetti westerns with Clint Eastwood, Morricone created the memorable scores which made his reputation (THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THEE UGLY in particular). Morricone went on to become one of the greatest film composers ever. He was nominated for Best Original Score 6 times, finally winning in 2015 for Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT. Prior nominations were for DAYS OF HEAVEN, THE MISSION, THE UNTOUCHABLES, BUGGSY and MALENA. He also won an Honorary Oscar in 2007.
ONCE UPON A TIME... tracks the exploits of a group of Jewish boys who grow up to become feared Prohibition-era gangsters on Manhattan's Lower East Side, then meet again 35 years later. The cast includes Robert De Niro, James Woods, Elizabeth McGovern, Joe Pesci, Burt Young, Tuesday Weld and Treat Williams. Leone's cut of the film was 229 minutes, which the studio made him reduce to a more commercial length of 139 minutes, which severely undercut his achievement. It cost $30 million and only grossed $5.321 million in North America, making it a disaster. When viewers finally got to see the full version of the film, its reputation soared.
