On offer is an early British pressing of Led Zeppelin's 1975 double LP Physical Graffiti, Swan Song SSK 89400. It comes complete with all the inner and outer sleeves and covers. The matrix numbers in the dead wax end in A1, B5, C2 and D1, indicating an early pressing.
Record 1 plays great, sounds great -- full, clear and thumpin'. The vinyl has much of its original shine and gloss. Under a strong light you can see numerous hairlines and light surface marks, maybe a very light scratch or two but nothing at all serious. In some quieter parts you can hear light surface noise but nothing significant. Most of both records sounds fairly clean. No skips or catches.
Record 2 is similar to the first record, maybe even a bit better. With one exception. There is a scuff at the start of Side 3 which sounds on each revolution of the record during the first 40 seconds of Night Flight. Not dramatic but definitely there.
Overall I grade the records at Very Good Plus by Record Collector magazine standards. That is, a half grade above the definition of Very Good which is "The record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch."
In terms of the package, we also have two printed inner sleeves, the white insert and the die-cut windows cover.
The inner sleeves are in near mint condition. The colors are bold and the images are sharp. The edges are extremely firm and there is no wear or feathering to the opening edges.
The white tracklisting and credit inner is in excellent condition. It is still extremely solid and bright with sharp text. It reads 'Gothic Print Finishers Ltd, London.'
The die-cut heavy card sleeve is in excellent condition. The image is clean and bright, the windows are all intact and the edges are firm. There is just some wear to the opening edge where the corners are beginning to fray. It still has the original box-style shape and it is solid. .
