I bought this as a ‘Rare 1970’s JUMPIN’ AT THE GO-GO DJ Banner’
The dancing boy and girl figures were used on the LP of the same name that a lot us kid Soulies bought, they were also on the pic sleeve to The Del Capri’s - Hey Little Way Out Girl.
Anyway, It was covered in ale stains and stank a bit so I tested a small part of the painted surface under water and soap, happy days, it had been painted with acrylic so was waterproof - upstairs it went to the bath with a cup of DAZ ????
As I washed it I noticed the water go a nasty shade of dirty grey and clumps of paper appeared on the top of the water ????
I hadn’t noticed that the NS badges on the material were painted on cardboard and stuck on...they’d disintegrated ????
So I made three replacements, painted in acrylic on the same material as the banner (I lopped a foot off the top) and stitched them to the banner over the water smudged originals.
I stitched a hem along the top side which allows a length of pipe to be inserted as to hold it under the feet of your decks (see pic) if your using it as a table cover or wood if you’re just going to wall hang it.
I also re outlined the figures and lettering in black, touched up the original paintwork here and there and added a few embellishments to make it sit a bit better in the space.
So we had an original piece of seventies NS Folk Art which has now had a bit of spit, polish, time and effort put into it...that could still be used for its original purpose or as a wall hanging in the man cave.
Some will see this as cheesy I’m sure but I think it’s a fab and unique piece of NS Folk Art history, full of charm and nostalgia - it would look fantastic as part of an NS exhibition or the like.
I’ve included a pic of how it was before I cleaned it up, also one of the album sleeve.
It measures an inch short of three foot by five feet and does look great when displayed, see pic (I hung it over a unit in the front room)
