1968/Canada/GNP Crescendo CARS-8004…..here’s a nice original pressing of this rare lp. The cover is in nice condition with light shelf wear, corner dings/wear, there is a delete hole lower right corner, name top right front, otherwise solid and clean with ni splits. The vinyl is in glossy new looking Excellent condition with a handful of super light inaudible sleeve scuffs and minor light storage staining from the inner sleeve. The record plays clean from start to finish with little noise and I assume I was possibly the first to give it a spin. Plays with clean fidelity! Clean labels have no spindle marks. A nice copy of this rare lp. Please check my auctions for other psych, prog, and rock lp’s. Good luck and thanks for looking!

Orphan Egg’s only release is the self-titled album which appeared on the Carole Record label in 1968. The band, formed in 1967 in San Jose, was one of the lengthy list of Bay area groups inspired by the psych movement spreading its tentacles from the sound’s spiritual home in San Francisco. The album, which also boasts some strong UK beat/psych influences a la early Status Quo, features lashings of incredible heavy fuzz guitar psych on a number of tracks, several of which were deemed worthy enough to feature in director Maury Dexter’s exploitation flick , Born Wild, and which also included a memorable scene of the band strutting their musical stuff at a pool party. The album consists of several covers including a killer version of the old Everly Brothers’ hit, ‘Bird Dog.’ Apart from this, the self-penned tunes really are the stand-outs here, with the feisty fuzz guitar, bass, drums, a little recorder and a smattering of harpsichord, combining, along the beautiful trippy vocals, to produce an ethereal, floating psych sound that makes for a hugely enjoyable listen.

GRADING

MINT: I consider New Unplayed or Sealed items only.

M- or Mint Minus, very clean with clean visual appearance and sound, there may be a couple of light inaudible hairline scuffs or such and will be mentioned in the listing, a Mint- record looks and plays very clean. Same for the cover. Very clean with no delete or other issues.

EXCELLENT: still very collectable for most, visually and sonicly clean. A handful of light inaudible scuffs, or hairlines. Cover will be clean with little wear, or delete. No splits.

VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal wear, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much. Cover will have slight shelf wear, and or delete, minor split.

VG+ the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects.
