Description

OBITUARY – SLOWLY WE ROT – ORIGINAL 1989 ROADRACER VINYL LP – RO 9489-1

A highly collectible original 1989 pressing of Obituary’s legendary debut album Slowly We Rot, issued on Roadracer Records.

This is the early European/Netherlands vinyl edition, catalogue number RO 9489-1, rather than one of the numerous later reissues. Contemporary discographic records identify this pressing as the 1989 Roadracer 12” LP with barcode 0 16861-9489-1 7.

Slowly We Rot is one of the cornerstone releases of early Florida death metal and helped establish Obituary’s unmistakable sound: crushing guitar tones, primitive grooves and John Tardy’s instantly recognisable vocals. Recorded at the legendary Morrisound Recording studios in Tampa, Florida, it remains one of the key albums from the first wave of US death metal.

Condition:

Vinyl: VG / VG+ visually

The vinyl retains a good gloss and presents well overall. Under strong light there are visible light surface marks, hairlines and signs of previous play, particularly noticeable in the photographs.

Labels are clean and attractive with no obvious writing or major damage visible.

Sleeve: VG

The original sleeve remains very presentable for a 1989 extreme-metal LP, with strong colour and artwork.

There is visible general age/storage wear including:

* light edge wear
* corner wear
* small creases
* some rubbing/scuffing around the perimeter

There are no obvious major splits or large tears visible in your photographs.

For a 35+ year-old death-metal record, it is still a very respectable original sleeve.

Overall assessment: Vinyl VG / Sleeve VG.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.

Why this pressing is desirable

This is exactly the sort of record serious metal collectors tend to seek out: an original-era Roadracer pressing of an historically important death-metal album, rather than a modern repress.

Original copies have become substantially more collectible as the album has been repeatedly reissued.

Who will this appeal to?

Obituary collectors; Florida death-metal fans; Roadracer/Roadrunner collectors; collectors of original 1980s extreme-metal vinyl; and fans of Death, Morbid Angel, Bolt Thrower, Deicide, Autopsy and early Sepultura.
