This record is from my own collection and purchased back in 1996, when I first hooked on this band around the 1996 release of 'Moseley Shoals'. Do not underestimate the rarity of this record! You can see that this release pre-dated the first single of that album, 'The Riverboat Song' (issued 5th February 1996) by at least two months based on the 1995 labelling detail, and was clearly planned as the first single MCA based on the catalogue number of 'OCS1'. This vinyl single was pressed in tiny quantities and issued to press and music industry contacts to stimulate interest in the band. (Ultimately this release became the second single off the album, being released March 26th 1996, and was replaced after Chris Evan's promotion of the band on TFI, playing 'The Riverboat Song', launching the band into UK 'Brit Pop' movement with a bang!).
***This copy is the only copy that I have seen in twenty years with 'plugging labels' that specifically market the fact that Paul Weller was supporting the band and the first single was imminently due the following February 1996***
(I had the pleasure of seeing Paul Weller play the Poole Arts Centre in August 1995 on the UK-leg of the 'Stanley Road' tour, and this tour featured Simon Fowler as a solo support opening the gigs, playing many of the sings the band would ultimately make famous the following year, plus Damon Minchella on bass and Steve Cradock on hguitar as part of Paul Weller's backing band!).
Format: 7” black vinyl record in thin delicate black and white sleeve. The track 'You've Got it Bad' is replicated on both sides and has a quick fade and lasts around 3:55.
Condition: This is a really rare single, and I’m not claiming that this copy is mint, but due to the rarity felt compelled to offer to an OCS fan. The outer cover is harshly graded as excellent minus, due to minimal yellowing, minimal finger marks and minor grubby points on the sleeve. This is one of the best condition sleeves I have seen of this rare single, and albeit only produced as a few hundred press, if they ever come up the soft, porous sleeves are covered in stains, creased etc etc. I have photographed under harsh halogen lighting to highlight any defect! The record is harshly graded sonically as excellent condition, and plays the loud, dynamic track well on both sides with very minor background noise. Record is harshly graded visually as very good plus (+) condition, with a nice glossy surface, a couple of minor rubbing marks from the outer cover and light hairline markings. So not mint, but a great copy of a super rare single that plays well.
