Up for auction is vintage 1972 double LP 12-inch vinyl record album (with gatefold album jacket) entitled "JOAN", an Original Cast Recording with music, lyrics and book by Al Carmines. Joan is a political activist of Jewish-Presbyterian heritage. She bombs a government building and is executed for her crime.
CONDITION OF ALBUM JACKET: The album jacket itself is in excellent shape with no seam splits, marks, tears or stains. There is some brown spotting on the cover, but very light and non-invasive to the eye. There is obvious ring wear on the back of the cover and hardly noticeable ring wear on the front cover (some older records were kept by their owners in stacks . . . this stacking caused many old album jackets to wear when the record was slid in and out of the stack and a worn "ring" outlining the LP would form on the cover). There is no outside seam wear; one 1-inch tear spot on inside seam; no corner nubbing where the records slide into the album jacket.
CONDITION OF VINYL: From visual inspection (I have not played this LP in a number of years), the condition of the vinyl looks VG+ with no scratches and no dirt. Surface very clean and bright looking. Both records are in there original paper envelopes. Neither record shows evidence of any bending or warping.
Produced on the Judson Records label, record number JU 1001, 33 1/3 stereo recording.
SHIPPING: I ship all my records in specially designed record mailers purchased on the internet. When mailing, I remove the vinyl record from its album cover and ship it outside the album cover to avoid seam splitting in transit. I also include a clear poly plastic protective album sleeve (not shown in the photos above) for your use.
The Rev. Al Carmines was a showman, composer, singer and actor who turned the sanctuary of a Greenwich Village church into a riveting avant-garde stage that helped start the Off Off Broadway revolt against mainstream theater in the 1960's. At the Judson Memorial Church on Washington Square, Carmines' musicals reflected his eclectic interests, which included Abraham Lincoln, homosexuality, St. Joan and, most particularly, Gertrude Stein. Carmines found as much spiritual meaning in the theater as the church: "If you want to know how to live, go to church. If you want to know how your life is in its deepest roots, go to the theater."
