ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Yes, it's the mono version, but the LP is excellent, and the jacket is in fantastic condition – if there is a finer copy anywhere, I should like to see it....
This lovely LP – the jacket in amazingly fine condition – from Philips (L 02.315 L, Trésors Classiques series, French pressing, red/white label silver label, mono, heavy gatefold jacket / cloth spine) features David Oistrakh's superlative accounts of Stravinsky's Violin Concerto in D Major and Mozart's Violin Concerto in B-flat Major K. 207, both recorded in the warm acoustics of the Maison de la Mutualité on 8 June 1963 with the young Bernard Haitink and l'Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux and boasting Philips' finest analog sound.
These performances are the only concerto recordings Oistrakh made for the Dutch label and although there are two other extant 'live' performances of the Stravinsky, neither match the incisive brilliance and supreme eloquence of this Philips rendition. Nor do they compare in terms of fidelity.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the heavy jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the jacket appears virtually like new – overall, this rates as a truly gorgeous collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
