Description

 Up for auction are 11 “The Unexpected” shows (6 Transcription records). The Unexpected was a 15-minute terror melodrama show that aired in 1948. It featured weird stories with  unexpected twists, hence the title. The goal was to shock the listeners, which the show succeeded in doing week after week. It ran on the Mutual WOR network in 1948, was sustaining and was broadcast on Sundays from 10:30 – 10:45 PM.

 There are 11 episodes available. Please note that the episodes start with the number 100, not 1.

 "MERCY KILLING"- Pgm. 100- 04-11-48- Barry Sullivan- 1st Show- A murderer receives a call from his dead wife.

"BIRTHDAY PRESENT"- Pgm. 101- 04-18-48- Marsha Hunt- A woman will do anything for a beautiful gold bracelet. "FOOL'S SILVER"- Pgm. 108- 06-06-48- Barry Sullivan- An old prospector thinks his mine is filled with pure silver. "HOROSCOPE"- Pgm. 109- 06-13-48- Marjorie Reardon- A woman's horoscope shows she's destined to commit murder. "COUNTERFEIT"- Pgm. 128- 10-10-48- Barry Sullivan- A counterfeiter must capture himself to survive. "PASSPORT TO DANGER"- Pgm. 129- 10-17-48- Barry Sullivan- A timid teacher is forced to become a spy. “VOODOO NIGHT”- Pgm. 130- 10-23-48- Barry Sullivan- A Haitian doctor is cursed by a witch doctor. “MIRAGE”- Pgm. 131- 10-30-48- Barry Sullivan- A stamp collector buys the ultimate item for his collection. “NIGHTMARE”- Pgm. 132- 11-06-48- Laurene Tuttle- A strange dwarf sells a young actress an even stranger doll. “HANDLE WITH CARE”- Pgm. 133- 11-13-48- Barry Sullivan- A man murders his wife but has trouble with the body. “THE NECKLACE”- Pgm. 138- 12-19-48- Gerald Mohr- Last show- A poor woman loses a priceless necklace. There are six 16" transcriptions for these 11 shows.Each transcription is 30 minutes
(two 15 minute shows) except for disc 6 which only has one show- the last show.

These 16" transcription records will only play on a transcription turntables with a 9" free arm.  All discs are in Very Good to Excellent condition with the original paper sleeves. The discs are clean and uncracked with no skips. I will ship them in sturdy packing by USPS media mail.
