Oliver Nelson           The Blues and The Abstract Truth       (U.S.) Impulse  Stereo A 5    (A-S 5 on labels)

This is an early 60s U.S. Impulse Stereo pressing of Oliver Nelson's classic 1961 release "The Blues and The Abstract Truth". About as good a jazz ensemble as you will find on lp. The classic track "Stolen Moments" is probably one of the best harmonically-based jazz-blues compositions that you will ever hear. A great listen in stereo (the way Rudy Van Gelder intended it to be heard). Eric Dolphy stands out for his gorgeous solos throughout. Essential jazz lp that has found it's way to countless all-time top 10 jazz lists.

Dead wax has A S-5-A and RVG STEREO all etched on Side 1 and A S-5-B and RVG STEREO all etched on Side 2. Original U.S. Stereo Impulse press.    

Vinyl visual Grading:  VG at least with some minor marking, and some minor mottling from being stored in paper for so long. 

Vinyl play Grading:  VG/VG+ with EXCELLENT fidelity and some minor noise, mostly from mottling. Maybe a TINY bit of distortion on Nelson's solo in Teenie's Blues. A NICE listening copy that has not been overplayed.   

Cover visual Grading:  VG with a few faults, most of which can be seen in the many pictures. Some laminate lifting. One bit of bruising where the cover was struck (last picture). Some mottling of the laminate on the rear cover (picture 5). OK overall, especially the front artwork. 

Comes with original first Impulse inner of that era in VG shape. Vinyl is housed in an Audiophile plastic inner.

My musical tastes run all over the map so there should be something for everyone depending on the particular day.  My goal is to become an HONEST, TRUSTED and RELIABLE provider of EXCELLENT quality vinyl and cds.  The grading system I employ for vinyl will be as follows:

NM:  Virtually unmarked / considered either RARELY PLAYED, AS NEW OPENED, or record could still be SEALED.

VG+:  NO scratches/scuffs. At most a few light surface blemishes which have VERY LITTLE or NO effect on fidelity. 

VG:  Used but CERTAINLY NOT abused, perhaps extremely light surface scratching/scuffing causing noise which DOES NOT significantly compromise the fidelity of the music

G:   There will be visible marking and noise evident but the record will still be listenable and enjoyable, depending on your ears.

I do not use the Mint grading since there really is no such thing as perfection. Also, I will NOT sell noisy vinyl (Fair/Poor gradings) UNLESS I feel that there is significant historical and/or collector interest in the item. 

ALL records will have been visually graded under BRIGHT light and play graded on a Thorens TD165 table with little used Shure cartridge (at about 1.5 grams) and JBL reference headphones with the Treble set HIGH. This play-grading system masks very little so rest assured that my descriptions will be ACCURATE.

All of my listings will have the particulars detailed (ie. any blemishes, detail concerning condition of vinyl, cover, etc.). All records will be shipped in new or top-condition recycled record mailers with well padded corners and extra stiffeners. Original inners will be included if available, and all vinyl/covers will be held within a poly outer (vinyl will be outside of cover).

I will not be held responsible for any items that are lost or damaged in transit, AND NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

SHIPPING/HANDLING:  Since I will be shipping from Canada (terribly expensive postal rates), postage will be flat rate as follows:  

                 1 LP anywhere in Continental U.S./Canada - $8             1 LP Overseas as per Canada Post fees in listed shipping rates  

    It costs me MORE THAN the $8 Continental listed fee to post an album, so everyone (in North America) gets a break on shipping.  Multiple items will be quoted upon request! These shipping/handling rates are still DEFINITELY LESS than my actual costs. Feel free to ask questions at any time. No question will go unanswered. I have done A LOT OF VINYL BUYING on ebay and have encountered pretty much every conceivable issue.

On occasion, I will be listing cds. All of the cds will have their particular condition detailed within the listing. Shipping for cds will be $3 within Canada/U.S. and $6 to U.K./Japan. I will, of course, offer shipping/handling cost breaks on multiple items BUT since I am shipping from Canada (where we live with NOTORIOUSLY high postal rates), you may not receive the price break that you are hoping for.  

AGAIN, being a reasonable person, I will be absorbing some of the costs of postage and ALL of the costs of shipping materials.
