Description

Orangutan by Isao Suzuki (Record, 2024) NEAR MINT!

Pre-owned, Near Mint copy of Orang-Utan by the Isao Suzuki Quartet + 2. This 2024 limited Japanese reissue is exceptionally clean and has been very lightly handled, with only minimal signs of use, if any.

Originally released in 1975 on the legendary Three Blind Mice label, Orang-Utan is one of bassist and cellist Isao Suzuki’s most adventurous and sought-after albums. The music moves beyond conventional hard bop into a deeper, more exploratory space—combining modal jazz, free-jazz energy, electric textures, and long-form improvisation.

Suzuki is joined by an exceptional cast that includes guitarist Kazumi Watanabe and saxophonist Kenji Mori. Their playing is urgent, searching, and remarkably cohesive, with Suzuki’s resonant bass and cello work serving as the session’s gravitational center. The album’s extended performances develop patiently, shifting between spacious atmospheres, rhythmic momentum, and moments of real intensity.

This limited 180g pressing was remastered and cut by Bernie Grundman, pressed in Japan, and includes the original-style obi strip and liner-note insert. An essential collectible for fans of Three Blind Mice, Japanese spiritual/free jazz, and the more adventurous side of 1970s jazz.
