Original Analog: PICO AND SEPULVEDA - Ed1 AND 1st Release of Ambassador Records

Description

Offered is a great rarity released during the final years of 78 RPM and The Age Of Shellac.

This is Felix Figueroa's homage to Los Angeles / Hollywood - Pico And Sepulveda ( "Felix Figueroa" is a pseudonym of bandleader / saxophonist Freddy Martin).

Not only is this the Debut Release for Felix Figueroa and His Orchestra (along with the uncredited Boulevard Stoppers) - it is also the first record released on Freddy Martin's Ambassador Label.

Freddie had opened a Record Store in the famed Ambassador Hotel in 1946 (it is a great Hollywood story - "Figueroa" being another well known L.A. thoroughfare). Here are the lyrics:

Pico And Sepulveda
Doheny....
Cahuenga....
La Brea....
Tar Pits!

La Jolla....
Sequoia....
La Brea....
Tar Pits!

You can keep Alvarado,
Santa Monica,
even Beverly Drive.

Vine may be fine,
but for mine I want to feel
alive and settle down in my

La Brea....
Tar Pits....

Where nobody's dreams come true

The record has inspired a number of clever artistic renditions - one is a kind of "music video" that appeared in the movie "Forbidden Zone". You can see a clip if you copy and paste

into the Youtube search box.

Present on both sides are light marks, including some scuffing and hairlines that produce occasional (not regular) background noise.

There are no deep marks, and the playback quality is strong and clear.

A Note About The Recording Technology:

Shellac recordings used early sound recording manufacturing technology, and play with various levels of background "noise", and an occasional click or pop.

Our grading evaluations examine the record condition as a result of use after it was manufactured.

-------------------------------------

We have placed this shellac recording into a protective plastic sleeve, along with additional cardboard packaging.

It will be arranged into a sturdy mailer with plenty of protective packaging for its journey to you. These original, early recordings are great treasures, and while their shellac composition is brittle - we have not lost one yet!
We have a good deal of experience with the transit providers, and will prepare your mailer with great care.

THIS RECORD IS SIGHT-GRADED ONLY UNDER A BRIGHT LIGHT, ACCORDING TO THESE DEFINITIONS:

SEALED: RECORD IS WRAPPED IN PLASTIC & UNOPENED.

NM-: RECORD HAS LITTLE OR NO INDICATION THAT IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.

EX: MINIMAL SIGNS OF USE (LIGHT SCRATCHING/PAPER SCUFFS), BUT IN ALL A RECORD THAT HAS BEEN WELL-CARED FOR.

VG+: LESS CARE THAN EX, LIGHT SCRATCHING OR SCUFFING IS MORE EXTENSIVE. STILL VERY PLAYABLE & WILL LIKELY PROVIDE A QUALITY SOUND.

VG & BELOW: WHILE PLAYABLE, THIS RECORD HAS BEEN AROUND THE BLOCK. OBVIOUS SIGNS OF WEAR & SHOULD BE CONSIDERED TO BE IN A LOW GRADE.  A RECORD GRADED BELOW VG MAY HAVE A VALUE BASED UPON ITS RARITY OR UNIQUENESS.

WE  RECOMMEND THAT YOU CLEAN THIS RECORDING BEFORE PLAYING. RECORDS THAT ARE  DECADES OLD CAN ATTRACT & ACCUMULATE DAMAGING FOREIGN MATERIAL THAT REDUCES SOUND QUALITY. THIS IS NORMALLY EASILY CORRECTED WITH A GOOD CLEANING.
