Description

Up for sale is the one of the first big hits for one of the very first recording jazz bands.  


Record Label:  Victor Record Number:  18472 Year of Release:  1918 Artist:   Original Dixieland Jazz Band (ODJB) A side (18472-A):   Skeleton Jangle - Fox Trot (D. J. La Rocca), For Dancing                   Wax Matrix marks:  "2S" and "5" and " 18472A" (all stamped)
B side (18472-B):  Tiger Rag - One Step (D. J. La Rocca), For Dancing               Wax Matrix marks:  "3" and "5" and "2 U 18472B" (both stamped)
NOTE:  The ODJB recorded these songs for Aeolian-Vocalion in 1917.  However, that single was not a big seller, possibly because the vertically cut grooves used by that label did not play well on the phonographs of the day.  The 1918 Victor version had laterally cut grooves and was much more successful.  Tiger Rag became a jazz standard and has subsequently been covered by countless famous artists.
