Description

Hi All, its been some time since I put a few records up for auction, however, I have my eye set on one of those recently issued George Harrison Gretsch’s so the thinning out of my collection has been resurrected to fund the latest itch.   I’ve sorted out a few choice cuts in the collection for your consideration as well as a few ‘vinyl staples’ for the discerning new entrant to vinyl collecting.  OK for your consideration we have:

Title: FROM THE BEGINNING By THE SMALL FACES

Cat No: LK 4879 - mono

Matrix No: XARL-7881-5B – 7882-5A

Issue: Original 1967 issue on the Unboxed Red DECCA Label

Vinyl Condition visual: The vinyl grades as EX; the vinyl has retained most of its gloss and deep sheen. The disc is very clean and showing only the minimum of careful handling marks. There are no notable scratches or marks to the vinyl to report, just some very light and mild surface marks commensurate with age and grade. All in all, this is a smart copy of this highly desirable album.

Vinyl Condition Playback: The vinyl playback is EX; almost but not quite, totally silent at the run-ins, and between the tracks.  Some very occasional and low level/mild clicks/pops during play-back– but these are hardly detectable even with headphones on. Aside from this, the playback is EX and the music is delivered superbly.  The vinyl sits perfectly flat on the turntable.

Label Condition: Ex; just look at the pics.  Aside from a name in very light, blue biro and a few very light spindle marks there is no damage or other unwanted blemishes at all to the labels. The silver script is clean and legible.

Cover Front: The front cover Grades as EX; the laminated front is clean and undamaged and has retained its shape very well.  The central image is clear and the lamination is excellent and intact. With the exception of very, and I mean very mild ring-wear starting to show (when held to the light) there are no notable creases/splits to report.   All edges are secure; overall an excellent example of this very delicate sleeve. To be honest, in terms of the front, I’ve not seen better.

Cover Back: VG+; the unlaminated back is in VG+ condition being clean and essentially damage free, however, the names of the band have been written on the back in blue biro (right hand side below the MONO script. Additionally some very minor age related rubbing/blemishes in one or two places but absolutely nothing too serious at all and all commensurate with age and grade. In fact the white areas are very clean and if it were not for the biro it would be a strong EX.

Spine: EX; the spine is intact, clean with good lamination cover. It has retained much of its Shape but it is rounding off a tad. That said, all the text is very legible and clear.

Corners: EX; very mild and gentle knocks but mostly retaining square edges.

Inserts/Other: nil

Summary:  I hadn’t played this LP for a few yrs but when I test played it before listing I was forced to give it my full attention – it’s a stunner.  The music is that good and these guys could play and deliver. The album itself is a real beauty and one that I’ve owned and cherished for many years.  Good stuff like this, in this condition, doesn’t present itself too often and it’s certainly going to get more difficult to find in the future. You truly do not come across Small Faces albums in good shape too often and believe me this copy is.  So here’s your chance to grab a fab copy of a fab album.  With regard to postage, all records will be posted in 12” Defenda- corrugated boxes so they should arrive as they left me. Finally, I offer a no nonsense refund if you’re not delighted with your purchase, less postage of course, which hopefully provides you with sufficient confidence to take a shot, and if you do, good luck.
