Record: Nice gloss overall with a few light scuffs and a longer light hairline mark, which is really hard to see. This is NOT a beat copy with big heavy gauges. Play tested (Linn) Near Mint Minus (NM-) with only a few mild pops. Stamped Matrix Side 1: P AL 30615-1A, Side 2: P BL 30615-1A.
Cover: The cover is lovely, with only minor wear, some very slight bumps to the corners and light ring wear to the front (NOT the back). 1/2 inch split seam on the bottom right hand side – too be honest I had to really look for it! NO writing, NO barcode, easy to read spine. This copy is a Radio Station Promotion Record (E80615), with very rare timing strip, which is fabulous condition, clear with NO writing. The sleeve has been stored in a plastic sleeve since I bought it in the late 1990s. It has then been stored in high quality flight cases since then.
Authentic Epic copies of ‘Live Yardbirds’ are quite rare, and the album has often been counterfeited (black-and-white covers claimed to be promotional copies).
History: ‘Live Yardbirds’ was recorded at the Anderson Theatre in New York on 30th March 1968. It includes "I'm Confused," better known as "Dazed and Confused" by Led Zeppelin later in 1968. It also includes a cracking version of “The Train Kept a Rollin’” (covered by Led Zeppelin on their first and last tour), as well as “White Summer” (a Zeppelin staple on a few tours, but especially early ones). While the Yardbirds rejected the album, Epic couldn’t resist releasing it in 1971 due to Led Zeppelin's enormous success. Jimmy Page threatened legal action against the label and Epic quickly withdrew it. CBS subsequently re-issued the album in 1976, but this was again legally challenged by Page, and withdrawn.
