Description
Otis Redding – Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul
1965 – USA – Volt Records – Stereo – SD 412
Side One Deadwax: ST VO-65733-1A
Side Two Deadwax: ST VO-65734-1A
1st Pressing: solid yellow label with bold black “VOLT” logo on top and “Distributed by ATCO Record Sales Co.” along bottom of label.
Volt records was a subsidiary created by STAX Records primarily to circumvent any appearance of impropriety during the “payola” scandals of the ‘60s. Otis Redding signed to Volt records in 1965 and became their biggest star. In 1965, STAX/VOLT signed a formal distribution deal with Atlantic Records (ATKCO).
NOTE: It is difficult to get a good photo due to reflections of the camera flash off of the shrinkwrap. Any white lines and/or glare are not part of the album. Both cover and vinyl are in near perfect condition.
****Since there are too many variables that can affect sound quality (needle quality & age, tone arm weight etc) vinyl grading is typically a visual analysis. If an LP has an obvious, possibly questionable mark (scuff, scratch etc) then we will listen to the songs that could be compromised and list any problems if they occur.
VINYL: Though unlikely, appears to have never been played. Labels are spotless. The vinyl would be near mint except for one ¾” scuff mark (through end of B4 and start of B5) on Side Two that does not affect playback.
COVER/JACKET: Still in original open shrinkwrap. The cover would also be listed Near Mint except for a promo cut to the bottom right corner (this corner also has some color loss at its very point). NO "ring wear" which is very common as, over time, albums rub against each other within collections. Any possible appearance of ringwear in photo is on the shrinkwrap only.

Please keep in mind that many of these albums are 40+ years in age and come from a time before ANYONE thought about preserving items for future resale value.
