She was given the honorific title Kawkab al-Sharq (???? ?????, 'Star of the East'). Umm Kulthum was known for her vocal ability and unique style. She sold over 80 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling Middle Eastern singers of all time,
She is considered a national icon in her native Egypt; she has been dubbed "The voice of Egypt" and "Egypt's fourth pyramid".
Umm Kulth?m, also spelled Oum Kulthoum or Om Kalsoum, (born May 4, 1904?, Tumm?y al-Zah?yrah, Egypt—died February 3, 1975, Cairo), Egyptian singer who mesmerized Arab audiences from the Persian Gulf to Morocco for half a century. She was one of the most famous Arab singers and public personalities of the 20th century.
