Description

Violinist Ivry Gitlis plays Paganini's Violin Concerto in D Major, conducted by Kurt Woss, on original 'circa-1951 red-label Remington 10-inch LP. Very rare. If you are like me and a Remington collector, you know that these records are near impossible to find in such good condition as this, especially the copies on the heavy original red label discs. This copy is actually nearly immaculate. Beautiful condition, with a touch of faint wear, and maybe just a couple of pops now and then, but only a very small few. Mostly plays without a sound, even through the quiet parts. These early deep groove records can have some innate noise about them, but this one barely does. And of course the sound is a particularly special thing. You Remington fans know what I mean.. the presence is unlike anything. Really an incredible sound, easily the best of all early US classical LP labels. This copy sounds just fantastic. The presence of the violin is just amazing to hear. This is a wonderful listen. The cover is really in unusually good shape, too, with the only issue being a seam split all along the spine. None on the top or bottom. No bent corners or ringwear. A really lovely copy. And maybe the only one we will ever see.
