First dropping in the summer of 2025, it's always a good sign when a band's debut LP needs a repress within the first year of release, which is precisely the case with the self-titled debut full-length from South Walian all-woman indie-punk outfit Panic Shack. Initially bursting onto the scene in 2020 with their own cheeky brand of relatable, riot grrrl tinged grievances, evidenced in standout single 'The Ick' from 2022's Panic Shack EP, their album features a markedly more focused collection of earworm indie rock bangers elevated by the snide, irreverent delivery of lead vocalist Sarah Harvey. Boasting a humorous yet standoffish demeanour, taking cues from post-punk juggernauts IDLES fused with the feminise malaise, despondency and dry wit of the likes of Wet Leg or Lambrini Girls, you wind up tongue-firmly-in-cheek bangers such as opening single 'Girl Band Starter Pack' or 'Gok Wan', which should clue you in to the type of self-aware attitude the Shack exude, almost as if the Spice Girls had turned to garage punk instead of pop stardom (and without a label to oversee and sanitise any "alienating" lyrical content).
