This second album by the Nashville-based outfit sees them expanding on their eponymous 2011 debut, but more importantly setting themselves apart from most any other band summoning the '60s in the here and now, by means of their songwriting flair, gleeful experimentation and raw charisma. The sunkissed harmonies and kaleidoscopic cadences herein may recall the paisley-and-velvet-clad spectres of 1967, but this is no Monkees-esque pastiche, rather an uncommonly talented group of ingenues, throwing disparate influence from pop, folk, experimental electronica and musique concrete with gleeful abandon. The Paperhead are mapping out a pathway between the birth of psychedelia, the future, the jam-room and the great unknown.
