PASSAPORTO PER L'ITALIA Lp featuring the rarest CHET BAKER and HELEN MERRILL vocal recordings from Italy. Original Italian pressing on the RCA VICTOR label (PML 10319 Serie Europa), from 1962. Cult and important item. An obscure compilation featuring 4 of the most desirable recordings of Chet Baker and Helen Merrill during their stay in early '60s Italy. Both these legendary artists sing in Italian over sublime orchestrations and cool modern jazz rhythm section. Our soundclip opens with the fallen angel's IL MIO DOMANI and SO CHE TI PERDERO masterpiece with the voice and trumpet of Chet Baker over Ennio Morricone arrangements backed by the mysterious harmony group, The Swingers (possibly I Cantori Moderni Di Alessandroni singers). Helen Merrill's breathtaking ESTATE and seductive NESSUNO AL MONDO theme have also been recorded. SO CHE TI PERDERO is gleamed from Chetty's Lullaby 7-inch single (RCA Victor PM 45 3068) / IL MIO DOMANI is from the Motivo Su Raggio Di Luna 7-inch single (RCA Victor 3080) / Helen Merrill's ESTATE and NESSUNO AL MONDO are from the near impossible to find, Helen Merrill Sings Italian Songs 7-inch EP (RCA Italiana EPA 30-387). Italian jazz collectors will agree that most copies of the Passaporto Per L'Italia Lp are usually quite damaged but our copy is really nice, overall (absolutely, the best copy we have ever seen). Seldom offered for sale in this condition, for sure. Sophisticated vocal jazz at it's finest. Big record with certain Japanese collectors too. Superb sleeve artwork. Rare Lp!!!

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG 

Vinyl is in shiny strong VG++ condition with some hairlines / faint paper scuffs from sleeve removal. Some faded, old pressing residue marks. Surface noises. Some soft pops / soft ticks in places (as you can hear on the soundclip). The hard card laminated front sleeve is in strong VG++ condition with light wear from storage. Very clean and sharp looking item. Some mini laminate chips to corners. A couple of thin white scuff lines to the laminate (to the right of the RCA logo on the front sleeve) and a small section of laminate chipping just below the top right corner at the open side. Corner ding visible to top right corner of back sleeve. A touch of ring wear. A few tiny white wear marks to edges. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Rare Lp!!!
