An important note about the pressing of this exquisitely rare album. Technically, what we have here is the second pressing (not even a bit more common than the first, mind you) on Score label; the first pressing was on Jazz West label a year earlier (1956). However, this is absolutely, positively, 100% guaranteed the SAME pressing as Jazz West, being that it has the old Jazz West matrix number stamped (etched) in the dead vinyl (trail-off vinyl) of the record.

Namely, in 1957 Aladdin, Intro and Jazz West labels were integrated into the new, combined entity called Score records. To avoid excessive production overruns and costs, the new label (Score) simply took over the EXISTING copies (pressings) of the albums already in warehouses and affixed new (Score) label onto the old (Aladdin/Jazz West/Intro) stock of albums. In other words, the pressing you are looking at is absolutely, 100% guaranteed, original 1956 Jazz West pressing, with NO loss in quality, sound texture or resolution from the original first pressing with Jazz West labels. This is the same pressing. Only the label is different.

One important note about Score records. Some web sites (bsnpubs.com) claim – erroneously – that Score label was Aladdin/Jazz West/Intro’s BUDGET subsidiary. This is NOT, repeat, NOT correct. Score was, in fact, a full-priced, full-product line SUCCESSOR (not subsidiary or affiliate) of these three labels, in the same vein Verve labels was a successor of Clef and Norgran labels. Aladdin, Jazz West and Intro did, in fact, have a budget subsidiary, but it was Hollywood label, NOT Score.

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.  The record - like virtually all Score pressings - plays with audible but tolerable, surface noise.

(b)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has some writing on its back side (a large filing code written in black marker in one corner, about 1 x 2 inches in size)

-         Cover has all three seams (top, bottom and spine) partially split,  as follows:

-         Top seam: between 6 and 8 inches  /15 to 20 centimeters.  This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-         Bottom seam: between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters.

-         Spine: between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters.  This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on all three seams

-         Cover has all four corners slightly worn / dinged / bent.

-         Cover has some writing on its back side (name of the previous owner written in blue ballpoint pen, about 1 x 2 inches in size)

-         Back cover has some light yellowish stains, probably from exposure to humidity.

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
