Original 1964 U.K. first issue mono pressing released on the Vocalion label LAE 587.

Staggeringly rare jazz classic featuring tenor saxophonist Paul Gonsalves accompanied by pianist Pat Smythe, bassist Kenny Napper and drummer Ronnie Stevenson.

Gonsalves had previously been a member of the Duke Ellington Quartet.  He was a musician with a completely personal tone and method of approach.  A most lyric player of ballads who could also play hard and swing with the best of them.

It was during the winter of 1962-63 that some British musicians on a short break from club routine, met up with American Gonsalves in Switzerland and through mutual respect entered the recording studio.  Nothing was preconceived, nothing arranged beforehand. 

What transpired was one of the finest jazz recordings of the era with all players performing at the top of their game.

The laminated flip-back sleeve is in EXCELLENT condition.  Absolutely no splits, tears or writing.  Just the merest signs of wear and some minor laminate bubbling on the spine.

The vinyl is stunning.  Easily NEAR MINT with only the faintest signs of use.  The sound of this album is simply awesome.  Almost entirely crackle free even on the most quiet passages.  Virtually perfect sound throughout.  A better copy you will not find.  Gorgeous !!!
