Description
Produced, mixed, and composed by electronic pioneer Paul Hardcastle, "19" is one of the most culturally significant and influential records of the 1980s. Famous for its revolutionary early use of stuttered speech sampling ("N-N-Nineteen"), the track delivers a poignant, driving anti-war message focusing on the average age of combat soldiers in the Vietnam War.
The track was a massive commercial juggernaut, topping the charts in 13 countries and hitting #1 on the US Billboard Dance Club Play chart. It is widely celebrated by crate-diggers as a bridge between high-energy synth-pop and the early emergence of sample-heavy UK hip-hop and techno.
