Description
Up for auction is a copy of Contemporary Folk by Paul McNeill, released in 1965 on Decca, cat no LK 4699, a mono pressing. A little-known UK folk album, whose main claim to fame is that it includes no less than five covers of Paul Simon songs, including the relatively obscure “A Church Is Burning”. The album was recorded in early 1965, while Simon (a “close personal friend” of McNeill’s, according to the sleeve notes) was living in the UK, and before his rise to fame in the US; these are probably the first recorded cover versions of Paul Simon songs, certainly of Simon’s folk-era work (unless you know better…). Strangely, however, The Sound Of Silence is credited to “Jenkins/Simon”. Additionally, Davy Graham is featured on guitar throughout the album.
Condition: a number of marks on both sides, but everything plays through fine with no jumps or sticks (but some clicks & pops). Cover has a few thumb creases on the laminate & some small stains on the rear. G/VG.
My grades: I use a 10-point scale: M-; EX; VG+; VG; VG-; G+; G; G-; F (fair); P (poor). I never use mint as a grade for used records. I am a long-time (25+ years!) record collector, and play-grade where possible. I don’t use stock photos: the item in pictured here is the item for sale. My feedback from buyers indicates I normally undergrade in listings. Even so, if you have any problems, I'll give you your money back (less shipping costs), no questions asked. Buy with confidence! Any questions? Need any more photos or an audio sample? I'm only an email away.
Payment: UK- cheques (preferred) or Paypal. Rest Of World- Paypal. Email for other accepted methods of payment. Shipping: £4 (UK 1st class), £5 (UK recorded) £6.50 (Europe) £9.50 (rest of world-airmail). Insurance recommended for orders over £25; I am not responsible for parcels that go missing in the post!
