Paul McCartney's love for Buddy Holly and his music goes back to The Beatles early years.

Paul created "Buddy Holly Week" an event celebrated in London every year. For the 1984 Buddy Holly Week Paul and his publishing company MPL (McCartney Productions Limited) sponsored an amateur Buddy Holly portrait contest. Hundreds of portraits were submitted, but only 10 were selected to appear on the Picture sleeve of a Buddy Holly 45.

Each Sleeve gives an accreditation to the individual artist selected.
