This one is a killer, guys.
This LP is a rarity that does not show up much anymore at all. The boxed set (which is textured and sturdier quality than any other boot box I have seen. The only problem is the LP wasusually sitting in a young person’s apartment and a lot of them took a beating because of the “high school / college / first job”atmosphere circa 1976 in the USA where most of the copies resided after sale.
This LP was released before Capitol released the triple LP stock set “Wings over America”. Back in the day, you’d hear a side or two at parties because it was the only live recording of McCartney at the time.
THIS WAS THE LAST SHOW OF THE ‘WINGS OVER THE WORLD’ TOUR (1975 – 1976).
When McCartney formed Wings back in 1971, it was intended to be a touring unit as much as a recording one. After spending the latter half of his time with the Beatles confined to the studio, McCartney was itching to get back onto the road. By the time September 1975 rolled around, Wings' tours had been on the modest side. This latest one would last over a year and take the band around the world. The triple-album WINGS OVER AMERICA was recorded during this time and despite its heft, the performances within contained no filler and were bristling with energy from start to finish. Wings' secret weapon was guitarist Jimmy McCulloch, an underrated musician whose playing lit up the opening medley of "Venus And Mars/Rock Show/Jet" and "Hi Hi Hi." Along with material from a mix of Wings albums, McCartney proudly revisited his past by dusting off latter-day Beatles songs which had previously been studio-only manifestations ("Lady Madonna," "Blackbird").
Stored vertically in a smoke free environment for 40 years.
PS – This set disappeared by the beginning of 1977 due to (1) pressing was sold out, and (2) “Wings Over America” had been legally released. As far as I know, this LP was never re-released by any other bootleg label (as was often the custom back then) probably due to its heft (3 LPs) and the box.
