PAUL McCARTNEY/Beatles: Free Now. Mega Rare 2000 Promo 45
RE-LISTED OWING TO NON-PAYER.
There are very few McCartney or Beatles collectors who know that this single even exists. It was issued on vinyl in a minuscule pressing, only to a very select few in the music industry to promote Paul's upcoming collaboration with the Liverpool Sound Collage project. It's difficult to find much information about the single itself so exclusive was its distribution twenty two years ago. While the eventual CD is fairly common, I have never seen this vinyl promo from it for sale before. It features both Paul on vocals plus Beatle snippets and producing input from Cian Ciaran from the band Super Furry Animals.
"It's an outbreak from my normal stuff," Paul said at the time. "More underground than you usually hear from me. A little side dish not to be confused with my other work."
The track is a powerful ambient groove that opens with George Harrison talking about John Lennon before the sound crashes in with Paul hypnotically repeating, "I did it! I did it! Baby it's free now, gotta get free now..." It is an absolutely storming noise, made for vinyl decks even though it only existed on that format in tiny, tiny numbers. There is no music on the other side of the disc. Frankly nothing could really follow it.
This is an astronomically rare addition to the McCartney/Beatles canon, a holy grail for all collectors - and what a superb condition copy this is. The vinyl shines dark and glossy free from any scuffs, scratches or even hairlines. The labels are smart and clear - no stickers, rips or writing. This even includes the Hydra Records press release, complete with McCartneys quotes, that alerted the few to receive the single of what it was and what it meant to him.
It goes on to state: "The Beatles as they've never been heard before. The track contains out takes from Beatle recordings made between 1965-69 sampling more than 20 clips from Beatle sessions edited by McCartney to create what he calls "a manic Beatles single".
This is no bootleg. This is a real but all but unknown McCartney endorsed Beatles vinyl 45. Impossible to believe but there it is. And here is a perhaps unique chance to own it.
