Description
This is BALAKLAVA by PEARLS BEFORE SWINE, 1st Press original UK vinyl LP.
This 1st press release is documented on the DISCOGS website and was the first version released in the UK in 1969.
The LP is an original ESP-DISK first pressing, distributed through the FONTANA label, numbered STL 5505/888 802 TY, and the matrix numbers in the vinyl runout are:
- Side 1: 888802 1Y//2 420 112
- Side 2: 888802 2Y//1 420 11
I use the "Record Collectors Grading System" which can be viewed on the Record Collector website.
I use "+" and "-" to provide a more precise grading, where a record sits between 2 grades.
I only use MINT for new, unplayed records.
VINYL
During play test, it played like a new record, quiet between tracks, superb clarity with no audio issues - and is hence rated NM for audio.
Visually the vinyl has no marks, and looks like new, and is hence rated NM for visual appearance.
However, the record LABEL has a number of spindle marks, and the letters "JD" have been written on the side 2 label in biro - see photos.
Hence the label's visual appearance is rated VG+
COVER
The cover is in excellent shape, especially for a cover that is over 50 years old - please see photos.
The top and bottom edges are showing very little wear, the spine has a couple of small wear spots, but all the text is readable.
The back cover has some wear on the unlaminated black background, see photos - but this is very common for unlaminated black covers of this age.
The rating for the cover is EX
The record will be posted in a MusicMAX STRONG LOCKTAB RECORD MAILER, with 2 x stiffeners.
