Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

STUNNING ***MINT*** STILL IN SHRINK WRAP!

LOOKS UN-PLAYED - PERFECT!!! you won't find a better copy!

Original 1968 FIRST PRINT ... a BEAUTIFUL COPY still in original factory cellophane including the RARE "Happening '68" sticker on outside of the shrink wrap - a special copy like this indeed!

When we last left Paul Revere and the Raiders they were hitting their creative peak and passing their commercial one with 1967’s Revolution! They suddenly started going by “Paul Revere and the Raiders Featuring Mark Lindsay.” That unofficial new name was more than a way to cash-in on lead singer Lindsay’s heartthrob status. From this point on, they’d really be his band. Nowhere else would this be clearer than on Goin’ to Memphis, essentially a solo album on which Revere and the Raiders supported him on just one track, “Peace of Mind”. The albums that followed weren’t exactly one-man shows though, but Lindsay’s compositions continued to dominate and he took over production duties for good.

Still, Lindsay was one of the more expressive white soul singers of the sixties, and he makes good use of his chops by spreading a growling-heated soul vibe over an entire record. With its underlying twang, Goin’ to Memphis has only gotten better with age.

In 1968, with numerous classic hits under their collective belt, Paul Revere and the Raiders were ready to stretch out and explore new musical territory. One of the first manifestations of the band's creative restlessness--and perhaps the biggest departure of their recording career--was Goin' to Memphis. Recorded at Memphis' American studios (where Elvis Presley would stage his comeback sessions the following year) with legendary producer Chips Moman and such local session aces as Tommy Cogbill, Spooner Oldham and Bobby Woods, the project diverged sharply from the Raiders' established sound, introducing a gritty blue-eyed soul style that proved to be an ideal showcase for the vocal and songwriting talents of frontman and main songwriter Mark Lindsay. At the time, the abrupt stylistic shift generally confused the band's audience. But in the years since, Goin' to Memphis has been recognized as a lost gem, thanks to such effortlessly gritty tunes as "Peace of Mind," "Every Man Needs a Woman" and "I Don't Want Nobody," as well as distinctive ravers of the R&B classics "Soul Man" and "Boogaloo Down Broadway."

  1. "Boogaloo Down Broadway"
