Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. NO BAR CODE ... 40 YEARS OLD FIRST PRINT:::

STILL FACTORY SEALED ... never opened as a a now PERFECT artifact condition FIRST RELEASE ... flat & square and 4 sharp corners ... never opened / never played!

Just listened to another (opened) copy hanging-out here, and was pleasantly impressed. This Lp is about on the level of McCartney's Venus and Mars Lp: a nice upturn from Wings At The Speed Of Sound Lp that was then previously released.

The great songs are "Backwards Traveller" (a stroke of genius) and "Don't Let It Bring You Down", which manages to combine an Indian drone-y feel with something from a Renaissance festival.  Both are full-on Beatles quality, including a great vibe; both are strong 9's on a 10-scale.  The title track is almost, almost great; it's just a little too tentative to be all the way there, but is still quite Beatle-y and enjoyable; call it a strong 8.

There are several solid album tracks, far better than to call filler.  "Famous Groupies" is a rather Monty Python-esque sendup: Paul's "Apple Scruffs".  "Deliver Your Children" is sort of "Teach Your Children Well" meets something English and folky, like Pentangle.  "Morse Moose and the Grey Goose" is a somewhat avant-garde, long, catchy, rocking shout-along, unique in Paul's catalog.  Note that all the songs mentioned so far sound closer to the Beatles than to the pop-craft whimsy sound that Wings often created.

More Wingsy, and still quite solid tracks, include "Children Children" and the Elvis-y "Name And Address". Elsewhere, still listenable, are "Cafe On The Left Bank", "I've Had Enough" (catchy melody and doesn't rock hard enough), and "I'm Carrying", which has a sweet melody and a lyric could have used perhaps a half-hour's more work (i.e. probably triple what he put into it).  "Cuff Link" is a decent instrumental that follows the fantastically retro, four-party harmony monster "Backwards Traveller" mentioned above.

Then there's the stuff; hits-ville gems on the radio:  "With A Little Luck" , and "Girlfriend", written for a certain up-and-coming Beatle-catalog usurper.

One thing this album has right is the production and general sound.  Kind of like the 80's equivalent of today's overly hot mastering.

A shame Paul, Denny and Linda couldn't just carry on in this vein.  There was a nice synergy kicking in with Denny as co-songwriter, and the folky, English pop-craft approach had potential to maybe go in a progressive direction, which might have challenged Paul.  Instead he remained more-or-less aimlessly eclectic and lost for quite some time, although all of his albums have at least essential songs on them -- at least if you're a Beatles fan like us, and feel that Ram and Band On The Run are at or very close to the BEATLES level.
