Item Description:

Grade (Sleeve/Disk):  VG/VG+

Grade detail: Disc has a couple of visible hairlines and marks, but overall is in nice condition. Sleeve is original BBC Transcription Services version in really good condition with a little reference writing on the front. Cue sheets are crisp and clean and are in really nice condition with the usual corner fold to protect disc from staple. 

Philip Levene

Levene was a prolific writer of radio plays from 1956 to 1967 but not many recordings of his plays have been found. He wrote 3 series of Destination Fire; I've yet to come across any recorded here in the UK by collectors. He's perhaps best known for the many TV scripts he produced for "The Avengers".   RB comment - his radio work was quite extensive, the earliest play I can trace being "Light Fingers", Tx 24.1.1956, the last (before some new productions/repeats late in 1973 as tributes to him) being "The Companion", Tx 25.9.1967. He wrote no fewer than 13 for the two series "Just Before Midnight". Not all his output was of the thriller genre. He died aged 48, in 1973.

Shelia Hodgson

Sheila Hodgson, who died recently, was a stalwart of BBC radio drama for over thirty years. Her first play was Night Without Sleep included in 'Saturday Night Theatre' in 1959, and her last, in 1992, was The Boat Hook, one of a series written from ideas for ghost stories left by M.R.James. Most of the James plays are known to us (VRPCC) but disappointingly few of the long series of more than thirty titles broadcast in her name over three decades. Her work includes the first in the "Just Before Midnight" series, Bag and Baggage, and a six-part serial broadcast in 1969, A Flame On The Water.

About BBC Transcription Services. 

BBC Transcription Services discs were only made available to overseas radio stations for broadcast purposes and were not made available for sale to the general public. However, in the early 90s many international BBC libraries sold their stock to the public.  

Typically BBC Transcription Services pressed 100 copies of each disc only with instructions to the overseas radio network to destroy the disc at the end of the licence period.

Any disk that is graded Ex or higher will have been played before grading.

We use the following criteria for grading:

Mint (M) - The record is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition.

Excellent (Ex) - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good + (VG+) - The record has obviously been played but has only a few light surface marks. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects is acceptable

Very Good (VG) - The record has obviously been played many times and has some visible surface marks. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects is acceptable

Good (G) – The record has visible mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc

Postage is standard UK 2nd class small parcel at a cost of £3.50. Additional records are only charged at £1.00 extra for each ordered. All our vinyl records are posted in Lil packaging stiff 12″ LP record mailer....a seriously strong, secure & professional package. Records are removed from their cover before posting to avoid seam splits to the outer sleeve.

International orders will be posted through eBAY global shipping programme

Your order will be dispatched within 1 working day of receiving payment (Monday-Friday) and you should expect to receive it one or two days after dispatch (for orders sent RM 2nd Class).
