PETER & GORDON “Hot Cold & Custard” orig pop/psych M-

1968/Cdn/Capitol ST-2882….. here’s a clean original Canadian pressing. The cover is mainly in the original tight shrink, there is a light thin crease in the cover slick that runs from the left side and through the song titles, minor but there, it appears the shrink was taped to the inside of the cover as the inside of the opening has tape stains, the back has a slight bit of tape stain lower left at opening, otherwise clean and sharp with no wear, splits, delete or other issues. Excellent! The vinyl is in strong excellent to M- condition, there are a handful of super light inaudible sleeve lines, very clean and has maybe been played a time or two, plays clean with little noise. The labels are clean and have no spindle marks. A very nice copy of this very rare lp that was Not issued in the UK! By 1968, the jig was up for Peter & Gordon. Their final Top 40 hit had been the previous year, trends had passed them by, and in all it was time for them to split. Their final LP, Hot Cold & Custard, did find them plugging into the fey orchestrated psychedelic-tinged British pop of the Sgt. Pepper's era to some degree, somewhat along the lines of what Chad & Jeremy were doing with more ambition on albums like Of Cabbages and Kings. That's evident from the backwards effects on the very first seconds of the very first track, "I Feel Like Going Out." It's also present on several song with a distinctly period British songwriting take that looks at British social life with a wry amusement, like "The Magic Story of the Park Keeper," "Uncle Hartington," and "The Quest for the Holy Grail." But the songs really aren't anything special, though Peter & Gordon bring their customary uplifting harmonies to the occasion; none of them demand a place on a Peter & Gordon best-of, aside perhaps from the nice bittersweet pop-folk-rock of "Greener Days." A few of the tracks don't fit into the somewhat artier-than-usual approach, instead sounding more like late-'60s pop as usual, and these -- "She Needs Love," "You've Had Better Times," and the aforementioned "Greener Days" -- are the better songs. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide

MINT: as stated with no defects

M- OR NEAR MINT: as stated near Mint!, or Mint Minus, same thing, very clean with no defect to sound or visual appearance, one scuff or mark may be permitted but it will be mentioned in the description, a near Mint record looks and plays very clean

EXCELLENT: not much below near Mint, may have a delete hole and/or a minor defect or two not visually detracting from the cover, the vinyl will appear shiny and in clean condition with very minor defects not affecting the sound, still very clean and very collectable!

VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal cover wear and/or delete/splits, still visually appealing, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much

VG+ a little more cover/ring wear and delete, splits etc., the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects, both cover and vinyl no matter the condition, I also play grade the records on high end equipment and will give an honest play grade as well as visual grade, considering the number of records I buy on line my grading is very conservative and fair.
