PETER WYNGARDE - PETER WYNGARDE
UK RCA Orange label first and only UK issue LP with gatefold sleeve & RCA company inner.
RCA VICTOR SF 8087 STEREO
Released in 1970 to coinside with his hit new show "JASON KING", From the former DEPARTMENT S Crime writer/ investigator, Comes this infamous strange and wonderful and VERY RARE solo album. Complete with its Original gatefold cover and first issue RCA inner sleeve in excellent condition. The thick RCA vinyl has only been on a turntable a few times, most likely due to its strangeness. But if you are a fan of Wingarde's shows Jason King or Department S You will want this album in your collection, This RARE album for anyone not old enough to remember, was not in the shops too long before it was withdrawn over much controversy at the time. The inner gatefold shows a super portrait of WYNGARDE looking quite dashing, which was apparently not Wyngarde but a waxworks dummy. The back cover shows WYNGARDE facing a wall which has the word rape along with eight strange quotes ie RAPE I BECAME VERY SUSPICIOUS WHEN I SAW HE WASN'T WEARING ANY UNDERPANTS and RAPE HE SAID HE WAS A DENTIST BUT I KNEW HE WASN'T WHEN HE TOOK HIS TEETH OUT.
LINER NOTES: A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM JASON KING
Peter Wyngarde's personal blend of sophistication and the incurable ability to laugh at himself is epitomised in this album. The outrageous is never far behind and irrepressable when sex leers its inquisitive head as in Rape and the Hippie And The Skinhead. Cynicism has a sneaking glance too and the cruelty of such lyrics as Flight Number 10 and Try To Remember To Forget to Forget are given such a romantic sound that on first hearing they appear disarmingly innocuous which they certainly are not. This was intentional with the invaluable help of Hubert Valverde whose music has the intangiable lyricism that makes a love song that is felt and seen when it is heard.
In Vic Smith they have found a partner who has brought his own cool mastery of connection - blending the two talents into a unique combination without distracting when he subtly injects his own particular sound in the marvellous arrangements. But of course it is Peter Wyngarde's unique and personal magnatism that shines through. I can think of no other album that has brought such continuous pleasure than this outrageously funny, original and versatile one
This album when I listed it before had a record number of 30 watchers and no bidders, so this time I'm starting this at a price of £4.99 and NO RESERVE
This Rare LP features 16 weird compositions including the exceptionally weird HIPPIE AND THE SKINHEAD.
The Vinyl is in excellent condition, Absolutely no skips sticks etc.
The orange RCA labels are clean with no unwanted names etc.
The gatefold sleeve is also in excellent condition, showing just light wear to the edges etc.
The RCA inner sleeve has become quite yellowed with age but otherwise is clean.
An all round nice copy of a strange and very collectable item that rarely turns up for sale
I try to be accurate in my grading as I know what its like to buy miss graded items but won't insult you by writing song lyrics etc
