After over six years of bubbling success, garnering a cult following along the way, German popstar Kim Petras' debut album 'Feed the Beast' arrived in June following a complicated album rollout involving a leak and a scrapped LP. What the final product reflects is a polished pop project that revels in wit, squeaky clean production and the incredible vocal runs that Petras fans have grown accustomed to - a powerful voice just comes with the territory in Petras' world. The unattuned may have heard songs like 'Coconuts' or the international hit 'Unholy', the Grammy award-winning collaboration with Sam Smith that is tacked on the end of the album - but it's the deep cuts that are the most rewarding here: 'Revelations' was an instant favourite and 'King of Hearts' took the fandom by storm, a driving club banger cut from the same cloth of Ava Max. Other cuts like 'Claws' and 'Uh Oh' are more reminiscent of Petras' mixtape series 'Turn Off The Light', the current reigning Halloween party soundtracks.
