PHAROAH SANDERS 1969 NEAR MINT ORIGINAL 1ST PRESSING "KARMA." AN AVANT-GARDE JAZZ BREAK THROUGH ON MAINSTREAM JAZZ RADIO STATIONS IN 1969. THIS IS A REAL COLLECTOR'S TREASURE! SEE PHOTOS!
***** Review by Scott Yanow from the All Music Guide to Jazz, 3rd Edition, 1998
"Karma was a real rarity, an avant-garde "hit." One could almost call it "free jazz for the masses." Pharoah Sanders, who in 1966 would have easily won a poll for "least likely to succeed commercially," by 1969 was out on his own featuring his Jeckyl-and-Hyde tenor (alternately peaceful and screaming) over rhythmic vamps. With Leon Thomas singing and yodeling on the 33-minute atmospheric "The Creator Has A Master Plan" caught on and received quite a bit of airplay on jazz stations at the time. My Note: it also received airplay on some of the first free-form "underground" FM radio stations!"
Of note: a beautiful laminated cover with a very small "bubble" and slight slash on the upper right corner. There are slight traces of shelf wear. Overall, a great package inside and out!
