Beethoven: The Complete Sonatas for Cello & Piano
mega-rare French first press vinyl 3LP set released in the mid 1950s on red/silver deep groove LA VOIX DE SON MAITRE label with large nipper logo and catalognumber FALP 430 - 432.
The wine red clothbound box comes complete with the 12-page booklet printed on heavy art paper with extensive notes and a reproduction of two pages from the original manuscript of the A major Sonata Op.69.
The heavy deep groove vinyl I playgraded vg+ to exc on high-end equipment with a vintage EMT mono pickup system. There is the occasional light surface noise known for with this set, but in general playback is very nice. Yet if you must have flawless or perfect NM/M copies, then please do not buy this set. I wonder if it exists to be honest ... overall this rates as an excellent collector's copies.
Legendary cello performances by Gregor Piatigorsky accompanied by Solomon on piano recorded at EMI Studio No.3, Abbey Road, London, in October 1954 with fantastic soundquality. Certainly one of the greatest cycles ever committed to disc and here in what is arguably its finest pressing.
