A Night On Bald Mountain
Sir Malcolm Sargent Conducts The London Symphony Orchestra
New & Sealed Audiophile Vinyl Record

Record Label: Classic Records/Everest SDBR 3053 (35mm Film)

Originally released on Everest Records, this is a true audiophile favorite. It was recorded by Bert Whyte on 35mm film at the famous Walthamstow Assembly Hall in London - a location used extensively by Decca and Kenneth Wilkinson.

Out of print Classic records reissue of an incredible audiophile rarity. QUIEX SV-P 200 Gram record was cut directly from the original 35mm magnetic film using an all-tube cutting system for maximum quality. 35mm sound has a textural richness that is more realistic than any other tape format.

Highly collectable release from audiophile label, Classic Records. This title was mastered by Classic Records at Half Speed from the original source master tapes. An all-analog, tube amplification process was used at every step. Classic Records used a proprietary vinyl that guaranteed virtually no surface noise and sonically superior dynamics.

Classic Records pride themselves for releasing each album with the original artwork, LP labels and any other materials which were included with original pressings.

Record is new and still sealed in it's original plastic sleeve. Perforation is completely intact. Corners are sharp, colors vibrant and spine is straight. There are no flaws or blemishes. 100% mint.

Review: Another of the series of Everest recordings done in London with Sir Malcolm Sargent conducting the London Symphony, in this event performing a couple of old war horses in Pictures and Night on Bald Mountain. To say these were definitive performances would be overstating the case, however, they are perfectly executed if at a bit slower pace than others - notably the Reiner/CSO on RCA. Rene Leibowitz's performances on Power of the Orchestra (RCA VCS 2659) have been the sonic standards for many years, but the Everest takes the sonics that make these pieces sing to a new level of reality - you can for a moment actually believe you are in the Hall. It takes a certain majesty to pull off full orchestra reality in the home environment and this recording comes as close as possible to fully achieving that effortless sense of size necessary to do so. Bert Whyte is again at the controls for another outstanding Everest 35mm recording at London's famed Walthamstow Assembly Hall - the same hall used extensively by Decca and Kenneth Wilkinson.

The Everest recordings are legendary, but at the time, were not given the treatment they deserved, suffering from mediocre pressings and cutting that really did not do the recordings justice. The original recording films were rediscovered, abandoned and forgotten, several years ago (by fluke) in a California warehouse, after being assumed lost for several decades. Remarkably, they are for the most in excellent condition, and now Classic are reissuing them on vinyl, courtesy of Bernie Grundman's superb analog/tube setup and special equipment brought in and refurbished to master from 35mm film stock.
