Description

A Momentary Lapse of Reason A1 / B3
This early pressing is in great condition and is often considered a first pressing as they were produced at the same time as the A1/B1 pressings.
EMD 1003 // A - 1U - 1 - 3 2 DMM D Precision // B - 3U - 1 - 1 DMM D Precision
The audio on Side One is Near Mint (although 'Signs of Life' is Ex)
The audio on Side Two is Ex+ (Near Mint in many sections)
The gatefold cover is Ex++
The lyric inner is Mint-   The labels are Mint
Visual grading
Both sides of the vinyl are supremely clean although S1 does have one long very fine hairline but it has no effect on the audio at all.  Under a bright light I can only see a handful of other small faint hairlines but I would say this vinyl has only been played 3/4 times if that as there is hardly any spindle wear to speak of.  It is an excellent example of this now 30 year old vinyl.
Play grading
As is always the case with this LP 'Signs of Life' begins with some static/crackle but it does largely disappear on the 40 second mark and from then on plays extremely well with just the odd light click here and there.  The second half in particular plays with excellent clarity.  'Learning To Fly' has audio that grades as Mint without doubt.  Absolutely stunning, it plays with a deep rich bass that sounds great on vinyl.  'The Dogs of War' has a little static at the beginning but thereafter has stunning audio with no interference.  'One Slip' sounds just about perfect all the way through and is a wonderful version.  The classic 'On The Turning Away' has a minor amount of non-intrusive static on the quiet intro but this is what you expect on vinyl which is 30 years old now!  The remainder of the track plays with a great depth and no further 'background' that just sounds stunning when turned up loud.  There is only a little distortion on the solo at the end, often it plays with more, and the version here plays exceptionally well.
'Yet Another Movie' again has some static/crackle at the beginning.  It is a little frustrating this LP plays like this.  Vinyl in the 80s/90s lacked something in pressing quality and I haven't found a 'Momentary Lapse...' that plays as Mint at the start of each side.  Anyway it soon disappears and once the music and vocals really 'kick in' the quality is of an excellent standard and indeed the track then plays with no other background interference.  'Round and Around' has a minimal amount of static in the background and 'A New Machine 1' has very clear audio again with only very light static in some of the quieter sections.  It is however very much in the background and the actual clarity of the music is first class.  'Terminal Frost' plays with incredible power and clarity and is a real highlight, rarely have I heard better, Near Mint without a doubt if not better. 'A New Machine 2' has hardly any static and plays so clearly but does have 5/6 odd dull sounds in the background towards the end.  'Sorrow' plays with powerful sound and with only the odd dust tick that you can barely hear.  Overall though this track plays with high quality audio that easily grades as Near Mint- and is wonderful end to an often underrated album.
Gatefold cover
Overall this gatefold is in exemplary condition with only minor wear.  There is a small area along the top edge where it has been compressed slightly but it really is not that obvious.  It is beautifully clean throughout and at first glance you would think it was Near Mint it looks that good.  There is minor rubbing on the two top corners but other than that the edges and wide spine are extremely clean.  The inside of the gatefold and the back cover are in stunning condition and are as new and the opening edge is in also in perfect order.
Lyric sleeve
The lyric inner is in perfect condition and has no splits and barely any edge wear at all.
Labels
They are both in stunning condition with hardly any detectable spindle wear and no marks or writing either.
