Description

Pink Floyd : A Momentary Lapse Of Reason A1 / B4 1st Press
This fourth variation of the first pressing plays to an excellent standard with only a little interference on the first track of each side which is a common feature as any Floyd collector will understand.  Aside from that it plays with Near Mint quality and even better than that in many sections!
The gatefold is in fantastic condition with barely any wear and is one of the most impressive examples I have ever seen.  The lyric inner is also in pristine condition.
Royal Mail shipping costs have massively increased recently and these are shown below.  Please could you wait before making payment so I can calculate the exact cost.
EMD 1003 // A - 1U / B - 4C
The audio on S1 is Near Mint (Mint- in many sections / Track 1 intro VG+ then Ex+ / T5 intro VG+ for 5 seconds)
The audio on S2 is Near Mint (Mint- in many sections / T1 intro VG+ / T2 Ex+)
The gatefold is Near Mint+
The labels are Mint
The original lyric inner is Mint
Play grading
As is always the case on 'Signs Of Life' the first section has some static/crackle but as the music begins it does decrease.  Once the volume increases the playback is actually very strong with only minimal light static and it continues to improve as Gilmour joins in.  It then plays impressively with very little 'background'.  So I would say this is VG+ on the intro and Ex+ for the remainder.
'Learning To Fly' is stunning from the very start and when I say it plays with no interference whatsoever I mean that!  The audio is immaculate and the clarity and depth throughout could not be bettered and the fade out has only a couple of dust ticks.  This is Mint- I am delighted to say.
The intro on 'The Dogs Of War' is near perfect with only a small number of minor static ticks and as the vocal begins the audio is superb.  From that point on there is much to admire!  There is no intrusion on the audio and the mid guitar solo and sax section both play exceptionally well.  You can turn it up to max the power is stunning and there is no distortion.  It plays 'as new' to the very end so this is Near Mint overall but with the vast majority better than that!
The quiet intro on 'One Slip' is again so close to being perfect and all I heard was a couple of mega light static sounds.  Thereafter the audio is immense!   The audio has such depth and power and there is no interference aside from minimal static on the fade out.  Mint-
The classic 'On The Turning Away' has six light static ticks at the very start but on the plus side there is no underlying static and the music does play very clearly.  It then plays beautifully with no interference and the very quiet mid section is so impressive also, no static etc.  The final section is outstanding!  The guitar solo is so powerful and if there is any distortion it is kept to an absolute minimum and again you can easily turn it up to loud without having to turn it down immediately.  The fade out also plays with perfect precision.  The first few seconds of the track are VG+ but Mint- for the remainder.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As per S1 'Yet Another Movie' has some static/crackle on the intro but it isn't overly intrusive - it's just a shame vinyl in the late 80s wasn't 'cut' to the same high standard as previous decades.  However, once the music begins there is barely any 'background' and very soon it plays as Mint the playback is superb!  I'm not sure I've heard better and it's difficult to put into words.  The power, depth and clarity of the sound is so impressive and to the final note it plays with such deep, rich audio.  Wow!  'Round And Around' has only minimal light static to end this particular section.
'A New Machine Part 1' has only light static and plays very clearly with no clicks or pops.  This is Ex+ in my opinion.
The classic instrumental 'Terminal Frost' is practically 'as new' with the only 'background' being one light tick that you could easily miss.  The powerful mid section is STUNNING and the remainder does not disappoint either.  The end section is relatively quiet and yet there are only a handful of dust ticks on the fade out.  Mint-
'A New Machine Part 2' is even better than Part 1 and plays with a greater clarity.  There are a couple of dust ticks and one static tick literally at the end of the final note so will grade as Near Mint
The long intro on 'Sorrow' is STUNNING and could hardly play any better.  There are only a couple of insignificant ticks but otherwise plays to perfection.  It continues to play with that deep foreboding sound and has no interference at all, 2/3 dust ticks yes but is nothing that intrudes on the 'high end' audio quality.  The extended solo plays superbly with no distortion and with only minimal static on the fade out I still think this is deserves a Mint- grade.  A superb end to the album.
In summary this first pressing plays to an excellent standard and whilst there is some static/crackle on the first track of each side it does not last too long.   You can't avoid it basically as it's always there on these pressings!  The rest plays to a superb standard with barely any interference and there are certainly no clicks or pops.  A fine example.
Visual grading
The vinyl still has a lovely glossy sheen and there are no scratches.  There are some faint hairlines on both sides and a small section of minor marking on S1 but this has no affect on the audio.  There is nothing to suggest the vinyl has been played very much as there is no spindle wear and the run out grooves are also extremely clean.
The Gatefold
This cover is in superb condition and at first glance looks 'as new'!  The edges and spine have no rubbing and there is no obvious corner wear either.  Stunning!  It is only the opening edge that has a little 'feathering' but it does not look like handling wear, it is only minor anyway.  The front cover is in perfect condition with no marking etc and the back cover is almost as good with only one tiny 'crease' by the opening edge.  The inside of the gatefold is immaculate and it would be hard to find a 'cleaner' copy.  It is also very strong like it hasn't been handled very much.
The Lyric Inner
The original inner has no side splits or tears and no marking or creasing either.  Perfect.
The Labels
They are in lovely condition with no marking or writing and no spindle wear.
