PINK FLOYD "A Nice Pair" 1974 UK HARVEST 1st PRESS NM PHANG G/F w/1st SQUARE CUT INNERS, THICK VINYL, GRAM CO
PINK FLOYD
A Nice Pair (The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn & A Saucerful Of Secrets)

ORIGINAL UK HARVEST (SHDW 403) FIRST PRESSING (January 1974) OF PINK FLOYD'S FIRST TWO ALBUMS COUPLED TOGETHER AS "A Nice Pair" IN BEAUTIFUL, LIGHTLY PLAYED CONDITION (possibly played once or twice at most as the labels have barely a spindle trace to be seen and the record surfaces shine like new) AND THEY DELIVER SENSATIONAL AUDIO (ON MY SYSYEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME!) WITH A CRYSTAL CLEAR, CLEAN AND FRESH SOUND - GREAT COPY

PRESSED ON TWO QUALITY HEAVYWEIGHT RECORDS (much thicker than later pressings) WITH THE FIRST YELLOW/GREEN HARVEST LABELS WITH "THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD" RIM TEXT (changed to "EMI RECORDS" just a few months later in mid-1974)
FIRST PRESS MATRIX NUMBERS: YAX 3419-1 / YAX 3420-1 (record one) and YAX 3633-1 / YAX 3634-2 (record two) (all stamped)
MOTHERS/STAMPERS: 2/HD and 2, 3/PA (record one) and 2/PP and 1/OM (record two) (all stamped)
THE RECORDS ARE HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL MATT GATEFOLD SLEEVE "MADE AND PRINTED IN GREAT BRITAIN" WITH THE FRONT "WR PHANG" PICTURE (WITHDRAWN FROM LATER ISSUES)
AND THE SET COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL EARLIEST INNER SLEEVES (ONE BLUE, ONE GREEEN) WHICH HAVE SQUARE CUT CORNERS AND TOP OPENING THUMB NOTCH (these inners were only issued in the earliest pressings and most inners are found with rounded corners)

SUPERB SET OF THE FIRST TWO ESSENTIAL FLOYD ALBUMS IN BEAUTIFUL, BARLEY PLAYED CONDITION - GREAT STUFF - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
Side 1: Astronomy Domine / Lucifer Sam / Matilda Mother / Flaming / Pow R Toc h / Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk
Side 2: Interstellar Overdrive / The Gnome / Chapter 24 / The Scarecrow / Bike

A Saucerful Of Secrets
Side 3: Let There Be More Light / Remember A Day / Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun / Corporal Clegg
Side 4: A Saucerful Of Secrets / See-Saw / Jugband Blues

LABELS: The labels are clean, fresh and unmarked with barely any spindle traces evident (possibly one, or two at most) - this copy has clearly hardly ever been played
VINYL Visual: Both records retain their original deep glossy sheen and apart from one superficial light scuff mark on Side One, Record One (which is completely non-sounding) both records appear as-new
VINYL Audio: Sensational audio delivery - crystal clear, deep, rich and strong sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always a real pleasure to return to these two albums - two of the most important British albums ever released) there are no scratches, no sticks/jumps, no clicks or pops and barely any surface noise (just a slight touch at the end of "A Saucerful Of Secrets" which is, in all honesty, really hardly worth a mention). This pressing is exceptionally clean with practically silent run-ins and track divisions with the quieter sections playing just about as beautifully and quietly as vinyl possibly can. A fantastic and incredibly impressive pair of records playing to just about their highest possible standard with great clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and critically graded a very strong NEAR MINT for audio - outstanding copy
SLEEVE: The original matte 'Dr Phang' gatefold cover is in EXCELLENT++ condition. All edges are crisp and square with no real storage wear to speak of and the surfaces (inside and outside) are clean and unrubbed. The only thing reducing the grading from a full NEAR MINT is some light age discolouration on the white spine (all text is clear and bold)
INNER SLEEVES: The two matte inner sleeves are both in practically untouched condition - clean, fresh and unmarked - and would also be NEAR MINT but the pressure of the heavyweight records has caused each to have a small bottom split (very small, approx 2cms) otherwise they are both practically as-new (The records are now housed - and will be posted in - two new inner sleeves to prevent anymore 'knifing' damage to the originals during transit)

PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT MY PICTURES - I USUALLY TAKE QUITE A FEW SO YOU CAN GET A CLEAR INDICATION OF EVERY DETAIL OF THE RECORD, SLEEVE AND INNER
