A Saucerful Of Secrets

This early pressing plays with superb clarity overall as detailed below and has only been lightly played.  It comes complete with a very impressive cover also.

As per the early pressings 'Gilmour' is spelt as 'Gilmore' and the tracklisting on the S2 label is 1,2 & 4.

Visual grading

The vinyl has only a small number of mega faint hairlines only and is in beautiful condition.  It has a superb glossy lustre and no scratches at all.  There is only a little spindle wear on S2 and only one tiny trace on S2 so I am sure this vinyl has been only lightly played.  The run out grooves are also incredibly clean.  It has certainly been very well preserved and the audio proves that.

Play grading  

'Let There Be More Light' plays with 100% stunning quality from the very first note.  The depth and power is of the highest standard and I cannot believe I am listening to a near 50 year old record!  The audio throughout is of Mint- standard it is quite simply stunning.  There is no 'background' and the bass in particular plays so strongly.  The fade out is also incredible with only a couple of mega quiet dust ticks.  What a start!  'Remember A Day' is another mind-blowing listen.  This is without a doubt a record that has been hardly played.  The clarity here is again astounding and there is just no intrusive interference, not one click or pop and no crackle either.  Wow!  'Set The Controls...' does have 3/4 faint clicks and one pop on the extended intro but the clarity nonetheless is of a very impressive standard.  There is no underlying static or crackle and it remains a fantastic listen for such a quiet track and it certainly one of the 'cleanest' I have heard in a long time and has only another 2/3 soft 'ticks' on the remainder.  As always 'Corporal Clegg' has a little distortion but there is certainly a lot less here than on many other pressings I have heard and still impresses with great depth and clarity.

'A Saucerful Of Secrets' from the very start plays with superlative audio and yes the clarity is incredible!  With only the odd mega light static sound I cannot stress enough just how well this plays.  I did hear a couple of faint clicks near the half way mark but in all honesty you won't hear many better examples of this classic instrumental than this one.  There is the odd dust tick and one pop but overall the clarity is very impressive.  For such a quiet track there is very little intrusive interference and the organ section onwards plays in sublime style with only a small number of light static sounds.  'See-Saw' also displays great depth of sound with only a couple of faint clicks.  Nothing intrusive and there is no crackle and no 'background' on the fade out.  'Jugband Blues' is exceptionally good and has only a couple of light clicks towards the end.  It is again one of the 'cleanest' versions I have heard in a long time.

In summary this early pressing for the vast majority plays with extremely clear audio.  There is the odd faint click but you expect that on a vinyl approaching half a century!  The clarity is the main thing and the clarity here is first class.

The Cover

The laminated G&L cover is in excellent condition and the edges and thin pinched spine in particular are in superb shape.  The corners have barely any rubbing they are super clean for their age as is the opening edge also.  The laminate has no splits or lifting just a few small creases around the edges.  The back cover is very clean with no obvious markings, just a couple of small white marks near the bottom and some creases near the spine area.  Overall a lovely copy of this relatively early press.

Inner sleeve

The die-cut plain white inner has no splits, tears or marking just some light creasing.  An excellent example.

The labels

The two EMI logo black Columbia labels are in lovely condition with no marks or writing.  The S2 label has a little spindle wear and S1 has only one tiny spindle trace.  The run out grooves are also in beautiful condition.
